The right fit makes a huge difference in your comfort, especial with a set of full dentures.
And we take extra care at Historic Triangle Dental Care to make your dentures as comfortable as possible.
We will explain how we do this in a minute, but we also want you to consider getting dental implants, which can make your dentures even better.
Our dentist, Dr. Michael J. Whyte, will provide you with the highest quality care when you visit our office in Williamsburg, VA. Schedule a consultation to find out if our digital dentures are the right fit for you.
What Are Digital Dentures?
For a long time, traditional dentures were the standard for teeth replacement for individuals who were missing one or both rows of teeth.
Unfortunately, older dentures didn’t always fit well. This could cause them to feel loose and to come out more easily that users would like.
If you come to Historic Triangle Dental Care, we will use the Pala Digital Dentures system to help you get a custom-fitted set of dentures.
As part of this process, we will make a digital impression of your mouth. This allows us to get the most accurate impression possible without any of the goop you may remember from other impressions.
Dr. Whyte knows people get dentures in part because of the cosmetic benefits for their smiles. The dentures you will receive from our office will give you a lifelike smile.
With our dentures, you can count on high quality and a natural appearance.
Dr. Whyte graduated from Utah State University before enrolling at Virginia Commonwealth University for his dental studies. At VCU, Dr. Whyte received commendations for general dentistry and prosthodontics.
Prosthodontics is the branch of dentistry focused on the design and fitting of teeth replacements. This means that whether you need to replace a single tooth, a few teeth, or a whole row of teeth, you can count on expert care from Dr. Whyte.
How To Make Your Dentures Stronger
We want all our patients to have the best possible experience with their dentures.
That’s why we encourage patients to get implant-supported dentures. Dental implants provide added security, stability, and strength to your dentures. This gives dentures more of the function of teeth.
◆ Security and stability
Dentures rest over your gums. Our digital dentures are more comfortable than other styles of dentures, but they still rest over your gums.
The drawback to this is that your dentures are not secured in place. Many people will use adhesives to make their dentures a little more secure, but this is a temporary fix. Plus, some adhesives interfere with the taste of your food.
One of the problems that occur when you lose your teeth is your jawbone will start to shrink as well. This is a direct result of not having roots in your jaw. Your roots encourage new bone tissue growth that keeps your jaw healthy.
Without roots — or implants to replace them — your jaw will not make the new tissue it needs to maintain its shape and size.
Dr. Whyte can plan and place a series of dental implants to support and secure your dentures. This means you won’t need any bad-tasting adhesives to keep your dentures in place.
◆ Added Strength
A healthy person has a bite force in the range of 200 to 250 pounds. That is more than enough to eat pretty much anything you would want to eat.
A person with dentures can regain about 20 to 25 percent of their original bite force. You can still eat, but you may find some foods too difficult to bite or chew.
With implant-supported dentures, you won’t have that worry.
Your jawbone will grow around your implants as your mouth heals after Dr. Whyte places them. This will hold the implants securely in place.
That security put added force behind your bite. Now, you may not regain 100 percent of your original bite force, but many people get back 80 percent or more of the bite force with implant-supported dentures.
With a little boost from Dr. Whyte’s well-placed dental implants, your dentures can function much more like real teeth.
Bring Back Your Smile … And More
The technology we have at Historic Triangle Dental Care will assure you the best possible fit for your dentures. Dr. Whyte’s abilities as a prosthodontist can make your implant-supported dentures as strong and secure as they can be.
