Get Ready To Make A Move With Invisalign

  • July 8, 2016

Imagine for a moment that you are a mid-level employee working in a field that you love.

You are looking forward to taking the next step in your career, but there is one thing holding you back from applying for a higher position in your company.

It’s your teeth.

This isn’t a new development. Your teeth have bothered you ever since you completed your education and entered the workforce.

But the positions you are looking at would involve more travel and more face-to-face interactions with current and potential clients. You want to make a good impression, but you worry that your teeth could become a distraction when you are trying to promote your company’s products and services.

You don’t want to get braces, so what can you do?

If you live in or near Williamsburg, VA, you can make an appointment at Historic Triangle Dental Care to find out if you are a good candidate for Invisalign.

Identifying The Issues

We start by examining your teeth.

We want to know if there are any health issues that may need to be addressed before you begin your orthodontic treatment. We also want to know what specific issues you would like addressed.

The good news about Invisalign is that it can be used to treat many of the same issues that are treated with traditional braces, including:

• Teeth with gaps between them

• Teeth that are crowded

• Teeth that are crooked

• Overbites

• Underbites

• Open bites

• Crossbites

To date, our patients who have used Invisalign have had tremendous success. We have help people who were seeking to make cosmetic improvements to their smiles, and we have helped individuals how needed serious alignment corrections.

If you need more evidence that we trust Invisalign, talk to our dentist Dr. Whyte. Not only does he use it for his patients, but he has used the system for himself.

If you have any questions about how Invisalign works — from a dentist’s or a patient’s point of view — he can help.

What Invisalign Is?

Invisalign is considered a short-term orthodontic treatment. It’s short-term because most patients can complete their treatment in less time with Invisalign than they would with braces.

By now, you may have figured out that Invisalign does not use brackets or wires to move your teeth. So how does it work?

As part of the preparation for getting Invisalign, we will make a digital scan of your teeth. This scan is sent to the Invisalign laboratory. Using computer-aided design, they craft a series of plastic aligners for you to wear.

When your aligners are ready, you start by putting the first one over your teeth much like you would with an athletic mouthguard.

You will wear the aligner for at least 22 hours per day for a couple weeks. Then, you will replace it with the next aligner.

You will repeat this process until you have finished wearing all your aligners. Each step of the way, your teeth will move closer and closer to their final positions.

After you are finished with the final aligner, you likely will need to wear a retainer for a short time. The retainer will hold your teeth in position and reduce your risk of relapse, which is when your teeth drift back toward their original positions.

Benefits Over Braces

We mentioned one of the benefits already. Your treatment will take less time in most instances.

Not to sound like a presidential candidate, but there is another huge benefit that comes with using Invisalign. The aligners are clear, as in transparent, as in practically invisible.

Most people won’t notice the aligners at all. This may help you feel more comfortable wearing them to you need job interview, your next meeting with a client, or when going out for an evening with your friends.

With braces, people are going to see them. While adult braces are more common today than they used to be, they may not give you the professional image you want to portray.

Last but not least, the aligners are removable. You take them about before eating. You take them out to brush and floss your teeth.

You can eat all the foods that you enjoy, and you don’t have to do anything different during your oral hygiene routine.
