To us, restorative dentistry is one of the most exciting things that we do.
This may not be at the top of your “most exciting” list, but if you need any of our restorative services, you will appreciate what we can do.
One of the most common concerns we hear from patients is that they are having a hard time chewing their food. Some patients have even had to give up some of their favorite foods because of lost or missing teeth.
This isn’t just unfortunate. It reduces their quality of life, too.
Maybe we feel this way because we enjoy eating, but we would not want to go the rest of our lives eating nothing but mushy and soft foods and soups.
Fortunately, you don’t have to give up those things if you live in or near Williamsburg, VA. You can come to our office, Historic Triangle Dental Care, to get back your bite.
If you have ever watched a home improvement television show, then you know some projects are bigger than others. The same is true in dentistry. The most extensive problems we deal with include people who have lost all of their teeth.
One option to deal with this is our digitally designed dentures. Because of how our dentures are made, they fit better and feel more comfortable inside your mouth. They will improve the appearance of your smile, but they can only restore a fraction of your chewing power.
If you would like to get back nearly all of your chewing power, then we would recommend dental implants, too.
Implants replace the roots of your missing teeth. A series of these implants can be used to support a set of dentures. Implant-supported dentures are more stable and more secure than traditional dentures.
This added stability allows many patients to regain most of their original bite force.
With implant-supported dentures, the whole menu will be an option when you are dining out with family or friends. You can get the chicken or the steak, knowing that you can chew it comfortably. You can even sink your teeth into corn on the cob confident that your dentures won’t come loose.
You know what is possible, although we hope you won’t need that much work for your sake. In fact, our preference is to address problems early, which can often prevent them from getting bigger.
• Let’s say one of your teeth was injured while you were playing catch with your son. Maybe you were throwing a football or baseball with him when you got distracted, and the ball hit you in the mouth.
When you realize what has happened, you realize that part of your tooth is missing, too. We will examine your tooth to assess the damage. In many cases, we may be able to restore your tooth with a dental crown.
To do this, we will reshape your tooth into an abutment. We can place a zirconia crown on the abutment to recreate your smile and restore the full function of your damaged tooth.
• Let’s take the previous scenario a bit bigger. If you were struck particularly hard, you may have had one or more teeth knocked loose. In those situations, we may have to do a little more to rebuild your smile. One option would be to make a traditional dental bridge. For this, we would reshape the teeth closest to the gap in your smile just like we would for a dental crown.
Those teeth would provide the support for the bridge, which would fill in the vacancy created by your accident.
An alternative treatment would be an implant-supported bridge. With this kind of bridge, we don’t have to remove anything from the teeth that are still intact.
Instead, we would place a dental implant or dental implants into your jaw. This would provide the support that your bridge needs.
From The Smallest Projects To The Biggest
Your smile is a part of who you are. If your teeth have been damaged, this can affect you physically and emotionally. That can affect your relationships with your coworkers and clients, your family and friends.
Regardless of how many teeth you have lost or how much injuries or decay have damaged your teeth, we have a variety of services to help in our Williamsburg, VA, dentist office.
