Plastic Or Ceramic Can Improve Your Smile

  • September 22, 2016

You’ve seen the photos in celebrity magazines. You’ve seen the smiles on television and on the big screen at the movies.

Many actors have the “Hollywood smile”. Here’s a not so hidden secret: Many of them underwent cosmetic dentistry to get those results.

You don’t have to be a leading man or woman in a Hollywood blockbuster to want or to benefit from having a smile with straight teeth. At Historic Triangle Dental Care, we believe every patient deserves a smile that they are comfortable sharing with the world.

If you live in or near Williamsburg, VA, and you wish your teeth were straighter than they are today, then we have two services that can give you the smile you want and deserve.

The Power Of Plastic

Invisalign® is an innovative orthodontic treatment. It does not use brackets. It does not use wires.

Instead, it uses plastic aligners to push your teeth into straight positions.

One of the most common complaints about braces is that they hurt. Anyone who has had braces can tell you that it hurts when you first receive them. It also hurts each time your braces are adjusted.

That’s without mentioning that sometimes braces can scratch the inside of your mouth, or the wires can break and poke you in the lips, cheeks, or gums.

With Invisalign, you can bypass those issues with a set of clear, plastic aligners. Each aligner is designed to move your teeth by applying gentle pressure.

As you change aligners (every two weeks or so), your teeth will be a little close to being straight. All you have to do is wear them as directed.

Invisalign has been used to fix many alignment issues that previously could only be fixed with braces. This includes:

▷ Overbites and underbites

▷ Open bites

▷ Gaps between teeth

▷ Crowded teeth

▷ Crooked teeth

Will Invisalign work for every patient? No, but it will work for many people. The best way to find out is to schedule a consultation with our dentist at our Williamsburg, VA, office.

Invisalign has several advantages over traditional braces. The clear aligners are practically invisible while you are wearing them. The aligners can be removed to eat and during your oral hygiene routine.

Invisalign treatments often can be completed in less time than it would take to achieve the same results with braces. On average, Invisalign patients will wear their aligners for 12 months. The actual time will vary depending on the specifics of your alignment issues.

Look Better With Less Work

Invisalign is just one of the cosmetic services that can improve the appearance of your smile.

You may not have to move your teeth at all to change your smile. You can hide your teeth instead with a set of dental veneers.

We offer two kinds of veneers at our office.

E.max and porcelain veneers. These are made of a ceramic glass that looks like natural teeth and that will improve the appearance of your smile.

Veneers can be used to fix some of the same issues as Invisalign:

▷ Gaps between teeth

▷ Crowded teeth

▷ Crooked teeth

For most patients, we will remove a thin portion of the enamel from the front of your teeth. Then we make an impression of your teeth. The dental lab uses this impression to create veneers that are custom-fitted just for you and custom-designed so your smile will look how you want it to look.

Some patients may be able to receive minimal or no-prep veneers. With no-prep veneers, we don’t have to remove any enamel before making the impressions.

In most cases, your veneers will be ready in a matter of weeks. You will return to our office, and your veneers will be bonded in position.

You could have a new smile without brackets and wires, without any kind of orthodontic care, in a fraction of the time those treatments with a set of veneers.

Plus, veneers can do one thing that Invisalign can’t do. Your veneers can be made to look as bright as you would like, so you can have a whiter smile at the same you make it straighter.

Which Option Is Best For You?

Invisalign is a better option for some patients, while veneers are better for others. To know which one is right for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Whyte at our dentist office in Williamsburg, VA.

This will give him an opportunity to examine your mouth and give you an opportunity to ask questions about these or any of our other services.
