Dental cleanings and examinations are a routine part of your dental care. They are a great way to catch any dental issues early on as well as to prevent problems from occurring in the future. But what should you expect from a visit to our office for routine exams and a cleaning? Read more below about what to expect when you visit our office for the first time.

Meet the Hygienist

After signing in, the first thing you will do is visit our hygienist. Our hygienist is in charge of making sure your teeth are in tip-top shape in regard to hygiene. The hygienist will take a moment to perform some initial examinations to look for periodontal (gum) disease and to make sure everything looks normal. We will take X-rays and digital photographs of your teeth and jaw. We will also do a cleaning at this time — unless major periodontal disease is detected, in which case we will wait until the second visit for a cleaning.

Meet the Doctor

After your initial examinations, cleaning, and discussion with our hygienist, it is then time to meet the doctor. Dr. Michael Whyte is a dedicated professional who strives to provide excellent dentistry to his patients. He also is driven to build relationships with each of his patients. Your first visit to our office is the best time to begin building that relationship.

Dr. Whyte will introduce himself and then perform some additional examinations. He will check your soft and hard tissue, airways, and bite to make sure all is as it should be. He will also screen for oral cancer and any other indications of disease. Dr. Whyte may also talk to you about scheduling a second consultation to discuss X-ray results, treatment options, and any other concerns. At Historic Triangle Dental Care, we are excellent listeners — be sure to ask Dr. Whyte any questions you have about your care.

Your Financial Options

The very last thing you will do before signing out at the end of your visit is to meet with a member of our team to discuss your financial options. This is the time during which you will ask all your questions regarding how to pay for your dental care. We will review your insurance coverage and determine which parts of your treatment will be covered and which will need to be paid for using another method of financing. It is important to us — and we know to you, too — that we are on the same page. Read more about your options for paying for your dental care here.
